Abstract

This research analyzes the code-switching used in Fathia Izzati’s videos’ YouTube channel based on the types and functions. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Because the research object is obtained from the internet or computer-based, the researcher uses content analysis to get information based on research objectives. In collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the data through some steps was: watching and listening to the videos, making transcription from the videos, identify and classifying the utterances. The study results show that the types of code-switching are intra-sentential switching and tag-switching. So they used two languages, namely Indonesia and English, during their vlog shooting process. The dominant type of code-switching that the speakers used is intrasentential switching. The researcher found that there are six functions the speakers did the code change. They were: participant, solidarity, topic switch, switching for affective processes, metaphorical switching, and lexical borrowing.
