Abstract

This study aims to know the quality of students’ translation texts from the prespective of their accuracy, acceptance, and readability. Moreover, it is intended to know the problems faced by the students in translating text.  30 students of sixth semester were involved as respondent.  Main data of this study was taken from documentation of students’ translation texts. The data was then analyzed and discussed in forum group discussion led by 3 raters as data validators. Raters found that the quality of the students’ translation text was in category of quite fair with the mean reached 2.46.  Questionnaire was delivered to students to know the portrayed of problems faced by students in translating text. The following are some problems faced by students in translating text: 1) it is difficult for students to translate long sentences like complex sentence, 2) the difference of grammatical structure between Indonesian and English causing confusion, (3) the lack of English vocabulary, (4) the failure in understanding the text, i.e political economics causing difficulty for students to conclude the text, (5) the difficulty in making natural translation for target readers, (6) the lack of vocabulary is a serious problem in translating, (7) the difficulty in finding the right equivalent in target language, (8) the difficulty in arranging a well-developed sentences in Indonesian, (9) the social culture differences between source language and target language makes it difficult for students to find the appropriate equivalent when translating technical terms.
