Abstract

The purposes of this study are to identify the kinds of acronym and abbreviation in the daily post of Instagram, to find out the processes of making acronym and abbreviation in the daily post of Instagram, and to find out the contribution of analysis of acronym and abbreviation in the daily post of Instagram for teaching Morphology. This study is expected to be a source for the lecturer of Morphology, to teach word formation processes (acronym and abbreviation).This research is qualitative analysis research which analyzes acronym and abbreviation in daily posts of random influencers Instagram accounts, posted from January until August 2020 using Plag’s theory (2003). The data of the research were collected by reading, finding, analyzing, listing, and classifying. The results of this research were there were two kinds of the acronym, they were acronym with combining the initial letters and acronym with combining parts of different words. And there were three kinds of abbreviations, they were initialism, shortening, and contraction abbreviation. They could be written in capital and lowercase letter. And the contribution of this research was this research could make students easier to understand acronym and abbreviation by searching any caption of Instagram posts, analyzing and classifying them into acronym and abbreviation, and the last point, applying how to use acronym and abbreviation in their daily caption in social media communication.
