FIGURE OF SPEECH USED IN ALBUM A HEAD FULL OF DREAMS BY COLDPLAY AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO POETRY TEACHING

Abstract

This final project is about analysing Figure of Speech Used in Album A Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay and Its Contribution to Poetry Teaching. The research is qualitative research which is focused on the Figure of Speech used in Album A Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay And Its Contribution to Poetry Teaching. As follows: metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and simile. The results of this research are (1) there are many types of figure of speech in every lyric in the album. In six songs the researcher finds 48 lyrics containing figure of speech that is 29 lyrics (68%) for metaphor, 5 lyrics (12%) for personification, 4 lyrics (10%) for hyperbole, and 4 lyrics (10%) for simile. (2) The meaning in this album is mostly reflect social life such as birth, death, love, and heaven, which includes sadness, happiness, passion, and others. 3) The contribution of song lyrics to poetry teaching is analyzing this song becomes an alternative so that learning poetry is more fun. So, the students are not bored in learning poetry teaching. Based on the results of this final project, the researcher suggests that the teacher improve the teaching of figures of speech in developing the students’ knowledge. It becomes an alternative media in learning poetry teaching.
