Abstract

This final project presents an analysis of presupposition found on the Soompi website’s article. The main objective of this final project is 1) to identify the types of presupposition found on Soompi’s website. 2) to describe the meaning of presupposition found in Soompi’s article. 3) To find out the contribution of the article in “Soompi News and Gossip Site” to pragmatics teaching. The researcher conducts qualitative research that uses articles on the website as the data.The result of this final project shows (1) there are many types of presupposition found in articles on Soompi’s website. 6 articles that retrieved from June 23 till June 30, 2020, found 4 types of presupposition those are counterfactual presupposition (1 utterance), existential presupposition (2), lexical presupposition (2), and structural presupposition (2). (2) The meaning of those utterances is to express something that the speaker assumes to be the case prior to their utterances. (3) The contribution of using the articles in Soompi’s website to pragmatics teaching is teacher/lecturer can use those articles in this website as creative media for pragmatics learning especially presupposition with the purpose to increase student interest. The suggestion and the conclusion from the research are the writer found articles that contain some types in presupposition and nowadays the teacher/lecturer can use anything that is interesting while teaching presupposition. One of them is using a website on the internet as a creative media.
