THE USE OF ADELE’S SONG TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S LISTENING SKILL: A CASE OF THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA KESATRIAN 2 SEMARANG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2021/ 2022

This research is aimed to find out how English songs can improve the listening skills of senior high school students. The main object of this research is Adele’s song entitled “Don’t You Remember”. Although they are easy-listening songs, in general students can not understand what Adele said in her songs. The reason why the writer conducts this research is because the students of SMA Kesatrian 2 Semarang still have difficulties in listening, they have problems with vocabulary or unfamiliar words. To analyze this research was made with quantitative methods. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the average score of class X-IPS.1 in the pre-test section is only 66,8. It is below the minimum standard score (KKM) which is 75. Meanwhile, among 30 students, only 2 students with a very good level (6,7%), while others need serious treatment. To achieve mastery learning in English, the researcher uses English songs in learning process. By listening songs as in the learning process, the average score of class X-IPS.1 in the first cycle raise up to 80,0. It is passed the minimum standard score (KKM). But among 30 students, only 8 students with a very good level (26,7%). So the researcher continues with the second cycle. Students felt comfortable and enjoy the learning process. It was very important because it will improve their self confidence and is the end they will be interest in learning English. The second post-test result averaged was 96,0 and 100% improved.

BOOSTING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH METACOGNITIVE STRATEGY

Reading as a receptive skill can develop students’ critical thinking. It can also material english knowledge and skill they account. Students are unlikely to make significant progress in the classroom without extensive reading material. It will be difficult for these students to comprehend when English texts provided they have not been texts before and are not accustomed to reading English. The metacognitive reading strategy is one of many solutions that have been proposed to assist students to improve their reading comprehension. This research method uses a quantitative method which uses pre-test and post-test questions to become student benchmarks. This current study discussed four mean issues. The first is how metacognitive strategies are implemented in reading class. The second is how students reading skills are before being taught using metacognitive strategies. The third is how students'' reading skills are, after being taught using metacognitive strategies are. The Fourth is there a significant difference in students'' reading comprehension before and after being taught using metacognitive strategies. This study took place in MA Futuhiyyah 01 Mranggen by involving 27 student’s as the participant. The instrument were multiple-choice reading pre-test and post-test. The result shows that student’s reading comprehension is significantly improved after being taught using metacognitive strategies. This result also are supported by the mean difference between pre-test and post-test score ( mean pre-test 62.22 and mean post-test 76.48 ). To conclude, metacognitive strategy can be a solution to help the teacher improve the student reading comprehnension. This study result also implies that metacognitive strategies is an effective strategy to be apllied reading comprehension.

Using Kahoot Application To Improve Students’ Ability In Writing Recount Text: “A Case Of 10th Grades Of SMA N 1 Juwana Academic Year 2022/2023”

English is a global language spoken in many countries, including Indonesia. English is a foreign language in Indonesia (EFL). Learning English is difficult for beginners. They must comprehend and apply the newly discovered language and writing composition. As a result, the Kahoot application aims to improve students' recall text writing abilities through game-based learning methods or quizzes. The study's objectives were (1) to find out of students' ability in writing recount texts without the Kahoot application. (2) to find out which students' abilities in writing recount text with using the Kahoot application. (3) to find out where there is significant difference in the ability of writing recount text between students without using the Kahoot application and using the Kahoot application. This study's population consisted of class X SMA N 1 Juwana, with X-D serving as the control class and X-C as the experimental group. The research design is experimental and quantitative. The researcher administered written pre-test and post-test questions to students. Before issuing the post-test, the researcher administered a Kahoot treatment to the experimental class. There was a significant difference between classes that did not use the Kahoot application and those that did. According to the data, the average score of students in the control class is 78.19, while the average score in the experimental class is 82.20. Based on these findings, the Kahoot application can be used to improve students' writing skills in recount text.

MOOD ANALYSIS OF LITTLE WOMEN MOVIE SCRIPT IN CONTRIBUTION FOR TEACH ELT CLASSROOM

This study explores the various moods depicted in the film Little Women with the goal of identifying the moods according to M.A.K. Halliday, Gerot, and Wignell theory and outlining the main ones. The descriptive qualitative method was used to interpret the data. The sources of data is video of Little Women that has 2 hour 15 minutes taken from Netflix. Therefore, the data are also taken from https://variety.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/little-women-by-greta-gerwig.pdf to get the script of Little Women movie. The technique of collecting data of this study using documentary technique. There were three types of data in data analysis: video, script, and classification. The goal of the researcher was to use the ELT technique to aid students in understanding the linguistics from the movie. The researcher also examined the mood, which included a study of the mood system, speech function, and modality. The research found there were 102 clauses in Little Women movie. The findings indicated that there were 3 types of mood, 4 type speech function, and 3 values of modality in Little Women movie. They were 74 declarative mood with percentage 73%, 17 interrogative mood with percentage 17% and 11 imperative mood with percentage 11%. Then, 78 clauses of statement with percentage 76%, 13 clauses of questions with percentage 13%, 7 clauses of command with percentage 7%, and 4 clauses of offer with percentage 4%. And then the dominant than the other types in modality is “will” the kind of modality is obligation. Declarative as the most dominant types of mood is used in Little Women it is mean give or state information and speech deals with giving information to the audience.

THE USE OF TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE (TPR) IN TEACHING VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SD NEGERI 1 NGABUL JEPARA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2021/2022

English subject in elementary school is very important. In SDN I Ngabul Tahunan Jepara, English is taught to students since they are in fourth grade. At this age, the students are willing to study any subjects that make them enjoy with great enthusiasm. This latter project attempts to examine the use of Total Physical Response (TPR) in mastering the vocabulary of teaching SDN 1 Ngabul. The main aims of this study were to determine the effect of TPR in mastering teaching vocabulary and to determine students' attitudes towards learning using TPR. The fourth grade class in SDN 1 Ngabul was consisted of 25 students that were used as subject of this study. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed statistically and not statistically. The result showed a rise in student scores. The result of the post-test showed that most students got a higher score after using TPR. The students were also in great enthusiasm during the learning process with TPR. They were very enjoyable and happy during with that. It showed that TPR is successfully helping students in mastering vocabulary.

In this era, both students and teachers have their own problems in the teaching-learning process, specifically in the area of writing. Most students have difficulties arranging and making paragraphs. To improve their writing, self-assessment is an acceptable method to apply in the class since it reveals individual evaluation. This study aims to identify the existence of a significant influence of using a self-assessment strategy on students' abilities in writing recount texts and to find out the significant difference between the students’ writing abilities in writing recount texts before and after being taught using the self-assessment model at SMA N 1 TAHUNAN. The pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire are used in collecting the data. This study conducted a pre-experimental quantitative design since it focuses on a single group as the main data and it relates to numbers. The population is XII Bahasa with 36 students. In collecting data, students have to complete the pre- and post-test. Then, SPSS statistic 22 is used in analyzing the data and calculating the score of each test. The result shows significant differences were found. It influences the score before and after the method is applied. The application of self-assessment in that class can be said to be quite effective, but there are still many students who have not experienced the effectiveness of the application of self-assessment. The scores are improved, but the application of self-assessment needs to be improved more. Then, the questionnaire has a correlation with the performance of students in writing recount texts.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ONE MINUTE TALK TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT 7TH GRADE IN SMP 1 JUWANA

Numerous pupils can write and read in English but need more confidence to speak the language. The researcher hoped that by applying the strategy of speaking English for one minute per day, pupils would gain confidence, enhance their vocabulary, and become accustomed to pronouncing English words. (1) Determine the extent to which the one-minute talk technique improves the speaking performance of students taught with this method. (2) To determine the extent of the student's speaking performance when the one-minute talk approach is not utilized. (3) Determine if there are variations in speaking performance between students taught utilizing the one-minute talk technique and those who are not. This research design was quantitative-experimental. The population of this study is seventh-grade students at SMP N 1 Juwana, and the sample consists of experimental class 7A and control class 7B. There were substantial differences in pronunciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension between classes taught using the One Minute Talk technique versus classes taught without the One Minute Talk technique. The statistics validated the hypothesis since the mean score of students in the Experimental Class was 68.62, while the mean score in the Control Class was 53.75. So, the technique must be used to teach speaking, as it could assist the teacher in conveying the subject to students and pique their interest in growing their speaking abilities.

Improving Students’ Listening Skills by Using Audio Visual

Listening is among the various abilities that is necessary for learning English. Listening is crucial to language learning because the more we hear the language, the faster we learn it. However, listening is not as easy as it seems especially for EFL students. Alternative media plays an important role to assist students more interested and enthusiastic about learning a language. This study aimed to investigate 1) the students’ listening skills taught by using audio 2) the students’ listening skills taught by using audio visual 3) to figure out to discover the significant disparity in students' listening abilities taught by using audio and those taught by using audio visual. This is an experimental study that employed a quasi-experimental research design having two classes: control and experimental class.The sample of this study was 8th grades students at SMPN 34 Semarang with a total amount of 68 students. Each class consisted of 34 students. The writer used audiovisuals in the form of short animation videos. To collect data, 20 questions were provided. SPSS 24 was used to do statistical analysis on the acquired data. The results indicated that 1) the students’ listening skills taught by using audio were classified as good with a score of 70.9 2) the students’ listening skills taught by using audio visual were classified as excellent with a score of 82.9 3) There was a substantial difference in the listening abilities of learners taught using audio and those taught using audio visual. N-Gain test also showed a mean score of 64 with an effective enough category. This recognized that audiovisual is effective in improving students’ listening skills. Seeing these results, audiovisuals can be considered to be used as an innovative way of language teaching, especially listening.

Picword is a new medium in teaching narrative text. Picword is an abbreviation of a picture equipped with keywords. The aim of the pictures can stimulate students' imagination So the students can write narrative text easily. The writer took this study because many reasons firstly they have low attractiveness in writing, they feel confused about how to begin writing a paragraph, and they bored with the media. Because of these reasons, teacher needs a new effective medium to improve their writing skill. The study aims to determine: 1) to find out the extent of the writing skill of tenth-grade students in SMA Negeri 2 Cepu taught by using Picword, 2) to find out the extent of the writing skill of tenth-grade students in SMA Negeri 2 Cepu taught without using Picword, and 3) to find out significant differences in the writing skill between students who are taught by using Picword and who are taught without using Picword. In this study used quasi experimental design. The sample consisting of 72 students X-A as experimental group and X-B as a control group. The technique of data analysis in this study using SPSS 26. It can be seen from the data the writer used Mann Withney U test to find out significant difference between those group. The hypothesis if asymp.Sig.2 tailed of 0.000 <0.05 based on the result hypothesis was accepted. So the Picword a more effective medium to improve students’ writing skill in narrative text.

Nowadays, the average Indonesian student of school age uses smartphones for both entertainment and communication. Smartphones can be utilized in a variety of beneficial ways. Almost all smartphones today have an internet connection. Learners can use the different online learning resources available to them through their smartphones. Vocabulary.com is one of the internet platforms that may be used to teach and learn vocabulary. A quantitative research design is used for this study. The dependent variable and the independent variable are this study's two variables. The independent and dependent variables are denoted by the letters "X" and "Y". Independent variable of this research is the students’ perception in the use of Vocabulary.com in English learning while the dependent variable is students’ achievement in vocabulary skill. Students of 11th grade of SMA Labschool UPGRIS made up the research's target population. The data were obtained from the 11th grade students at SMA Labschool UPGRIS Academic year 2022/2023. A questionnaire and a vocabulary test were the two research tools the researcher used to collect data from the participants. While the vocabulary exam was designed to aid in the integration of vocabulary.com into the learning process, the questionnaire eventually became the primary research tool. The researcher creates a vocabulary-focused English learning strategy for the students.

BOOK BUDDIES CHILD STORY APPLICATION-BASED LEARNING MEDIA TO INCREASE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (SD) STUDENTS' READING INTEREST

The purpose of this study is to raise primary students' interest in reading and to enhance their reading comprehension through media-based education using an Android app that is centered on the Indonesian folktale Book Buddies. The grades of the primary pupils level that the student checked at the beginning of the app landing page set apart the contents of the app. In this study, descriptive research was used in conjunction with quantitative data. The participants are media experts, content experts, English education learning practitioners, and Semarang elementary school students. The learning object is Book Buddies, an Android app based on an Indonesian folktale, which serves as a media-based learning tool for English-subject schools and incorporates visual communication, content, questioning, app design, software engineering, and language aspects. The study's outcome is an educational app that uses English-language Indonesian folklore as one of the media-based learning tools to improve primary students' reading comprehension and interest.

This final project is about figurative language in song lyrics of the album Always Remember Us This Way by Lady gaga. The objectives of the study are (1) to know the types of figures of speech as used in song lyrics of Always Remember Us This Way album by Lady gaga (2) to find out dominant figurative language is used in song lyrics in Always Remember Us This Way album by Lady gaga (3) to find out the contribution of Perfect lyrics for teaching poetry. The research was categorized as Descriptive Qualitative Research. The researcher analyzed song lyrics in the album Perfect which contain figurative language. The researcher collected the texts of the song and read all the texts one by one. After being read every sentence is observed to found out the types of figures of speech that may be used in the song lyric, and then any type of figures of speech found is classified. As a result of data analysis the researcher can make some conclusions. The researcher found metaphor, hyperbole, metonymy, simile and personification. There were 14 lyrics (35 %) for metaphor, 15 lyrics (37.5 %) for hyperbole, 2 lyrics (5%) for metonymy, 6 lyrics (15%) for simile, and 3 lyrics (7.5 %) for personification. The researcher found 40 lyrics on the album Always Remember Us This Way by Lady gaga. Most lyrics in the album My Everything used hyperbole and metaphor. The writer suggests that the teacher should be able to know the language style of the lyric. It also can give teaching resource to improve their English skill. It also can give the new media to teach their students. The student should not only listen to the songs and read the lyrics of the songs themselves, but they also need to learn the meaning and what things they can take as from the songs to be taken as lessons.

This study focuses on translation techniques of personal pronouns applied in “The Lion King” movie and its application plan in education based on 18 translation techniques from Molina and Albir (2002). The purposes of this final project are as follows 1) Knowing the translation technique used in every personal pronoun of “The Lion King” Movie. 2) Knowing which technique is dominant. 3) To know what contributions can be made if carried out in the translation class. The writer chose this topic because the writer really wants to know more about the translation technique of every personal pronoun in this “African style” movie. The main problem in this study is to analyse the Personification found in the lyrics of Jammie Miller's song 2021. The method used in this study is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. From the results of data analysis, it can be concluded as follows: 1) There is Personification in every lyrics of Jammie Miller's song in 2021, Researchers found 22 lyrics containing Personification. 2) The researcher concluded that in the lyrics of the song, found in every song tell love and sacrifice, there are many Figurative languages spoken, one of them is Personification. The purpose of the research is to make it easier to learn and understand the content of the meaning used in each song whose purpose is to beautify the meaning of the song.

BOOSTING VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH ENGLISH SHORT MOVIES

The use of media in teaching and learning English has received a lot of attention from educators and second/foreign language teachers. Media use includes movies, music, movies, and other types of entertainment-related learning resources. Movies or short movies is one of teaching media that make students can learn through audio and visual. This quantitative research study the implementation of English short movies to teach vocabulary for students. This research focused on the implementation of English short movies in teaching and learning process to increase students’ vocabulary mastery. The study’s results indicated that students’ vocabulary mastery before taught using English short movies was in fair category. Findings also revealed that students vocabulary mastery after taught using English short movies was in good category. From the study’s results before, it means that there is improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery before and after taught using English short movies.

The objectives of this study were to find out whether there is an influence in the use of Google Classroom on students’ motivation in learning English. The design of the research was quantitative which belonged to survey research. The population of this research was the nineth grade students of SMP N 1 Juwana which consisted of 325 students. The sample was IX-A and IX-B class which consisted of 60 students. Sampling in this study was done by random sampling. Data collection techniques in this study using a questionnaire. The results of the research shows that there is an effect of using google classroom on students' motivation in learning English. This is shown from the correlation test results obtained value of Sig is 0.001 ≤ 0.005 which states that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted with a simple linear regression equation Y = 38.866 + 0.158X.

Politeness Strategies in Anders Antonsen’s Podcast: The Badminton Experience Episodes

The objectives of this study are to find out the types of politeness strategies found in Anders Antonsen’s Podcast appeared, to find out the most dominant strategy used by all characters, and to state the contribution of this study for learning pragmatics. Descriptive Qualitative is used in this study since the research findings of this study are in the form of descriptive sentences instead of numbers. The writers used Miles and Huberman’s Theory in analyzing the data. The research findings shows that (1) there are four different strategies found in Anders Antonsen’s Podcast Videos; they are Positive Politeness Strategy, Bald on Record Strategy, Negative Politeness Strategy, and Off Record Strategy. (2) Positive Politeness Strategy come out as the most dominant strategy with 402 data, followed by Bald on Record Strategy with 130 data, Negative Politeness Strategy with 77 data, and Off Record Strategy on the last with 49 data. It can be concluded that the most strategy used by the all characters is Positive Politeness Strategy where it means that the all characters are really thinking about what they want to say against their opponent speakers.

Short Animated Video: How does it Enhance the Students’ Writing Ability?

Teachers must adapt to changes as a result of the modern era's rapid technological advancement, particularly in the field of education. Language assessment heavily relies on technology use in the classroom. Teachers must be aware of how using tools and learning techniques affects students' perceptions of their own performance. This study looks into the use of short animated videos as a teaching resource, particularly for narrative text writing. The study's methodology is quasi-experimental. The experimental and control groups were chosen based on the non-random sample group. Two comparable target groups were chosen to test it. The researchers have used a quasi-experimental design to determine whether short animated videos are effective at teaching writing. Both the experimental and control classes took a pre-test before the procedure began. Researchers in one class use short animated videos as a treatment or as part of an experiment. The first finding demonstrates that conventional techniques are used to teach students how to comprehend writing. Researchers discovered that students did not actively participate in their learning and thought that traditional teaching methods were boring. Students prefer to learn through visual and aural means, which is just one of many indicators that the experimental group's findings are more significant than those of the control group. Short Animated Video can be an alternative method for teachers and students in teaching narrative text writing in learning classes, especially if students feel that the traditional method is monotonous and has fewer activities. Short Animated Video has characteristics that can increase students' enthusiasm and creativity in learning English, especially writing comprehension.

Using Quizwhizzer Game to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery of Seventh Grade of SMP N 2 Rembang in the Academic Year 2021-2022

Vocabulary is collection of word that used and understood by the people. However, many students still have difficulties to learn new vocabulary and the students’ vocabulary ability is still low. It is caused by traditional method in teaching vocabulary, so the students feel bored and passive. For this reason, the variety of teaching vocabulary is very needed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery such as using game. This study aims to know that Quizwhizzer game can enhance the student’s vocabulary ability of seventh grade. The objectives are: 1) to find out the students’ vocabulary mastery before they are taught using quizwhizzer game 2) to find out the students’ vocabulary mastery after they are taught using quizwhizzer game, and 3) to find out whether or not there is any significant difference in students’ vocabulary mastery before and after taught using quizwhizzer game. Pre-experimental design with the one group pre-test and post-test was used as design in this study. The sample is consisted of 32 students in class VII.4. The technique of data analysis is SPSS 21.From the calculation, we know that the instrument is valid and reliable, it can be seen from the result of the data. The writer used SPSS to analyze t-test. The aim of t-test is to know whether there is a significant difference between before and after using quizwhizzer game. Thus, the result of t-test value is higher than t-table (8.504 > 1.695). It means that teaching vocabulary using quizwhizzer game is effective for improving students’ vocabulary ability.

CHARACTERIZATION ON NOT CINDERELLA'S TYPE MOVIE BY BRIAN BROUGH AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO TEACHING LITERATURE

The purpose of this study was to find out of characterization realized in the movie Not Cinderella‘s Type, to find out the characterization displayed in the movie Not Cinderella’s Type, and to find out the contribution of the characterization in the movie Not Cinderella‘s Type to teaching literature. The authors utilized a descriptive qualitative method to analyze characterization of the movie. The findings revealed that there are eight characters which are Cindy Ella, Bryant Bailey, Maxton, Dr. Bailey, Clarise, David, Jayda and Kaitlyn. First, Cindy Ella's characterizations are kind-hearted, caring, a good daughter, helpful, indecisive, obedient, diligent, a simple person and lack of confidence. Second, Bryant Bailey's characterizations are caring, A sweet or nice person, brave, responsible, encouraging, helpful and gentleman. Third, Maxton's characterizations are helpful, loyal friend and open-hearted. Fourth, Dr. Bailey's characterizations are generous, a good listener, trustworthy person and wise. Fifth, Clarise's characterizations are cruel, two-faced, bossy and bad-tempered. Sixth, David's characterizations are a busy person and insulting person. Student learning resources can come from various sources, including both local and international journals. Sports nutrition courses really need references sourced from international journals, which will have a positive impact on the growing knowledge of non-English department students on sports nutrition, which is not only at the national level but extends to the international level. In the learning process the use of learning materials originating from international journals in English, the longing for an ESP-based learning approach or English for Specific Purposes will greatly help increase Non-English Department students' knowledge of sports nutrition, but will also improve their English language skills which function as International language. The purpose of this research was to find out: (1) What is the level of reading comprehension ability of non-English Department Universitas PGRI Semarang students towards learning material sourced from international journals? (2) What are the learning outcomes of non-English department students based on sports nutrition material based on reputable international journals? Data collection techniques are carried out through tests, documentation, and questionnaires. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The results showed that the alignment of reading comprehension ability based on ESP of non-English department students against English journals in the Sports Nutrition Course described students' abilities that would increase if they received intense and continuous exposure.

The goal of this study is to determine the types and function of lexical cohesion underlying President Joe Biden's adress and figure out the significance of them as evidenced in the most prominent lexical cohesion in Joe Biden's Speech. Data collection method used documentation by; 1) Searching the speech transcripts from Joe Biden's address on the internet, specifically from reputable media organizations, 2.) Copying the manuscript to Microsoft Word from the website. The data is analyzed by the researcher in several steps; The first step for the writer is to collect and analyze all the data necessary to fulfill the requirements. Second, the writer understands the role of lexical cohesion after classifying the various forms of lexical cohesion. Then, the writers compute the total of all values entered into the table. Finally, the author completes the data/validation and finds the dominant lexical cohesion found in the text of Joe Biden's speech. The results revealed that repetition found 84 times of occurances, 35 times of Synonym and near-synonym, antonym revealed 15 times with the percentage of it 8%. Superordinate occurred 41 times, general words have 10% in percentage. 5 Collocation found in a Joe Biden’s speech. The function of cohesion is to connect one section of a text to another section of the same text. the most commonly employed lexical cohesion is repetition. The researcher suggests that for contribution in English teaching, it give the reader an idea of applying the lexical cohesion in conveying the message especially throughout the speech.

Writing skill is one of the most important language skills to be mastered by students. Many learning models have been developed for writing, especially in English teaching, but not all English teachers know and implement these learning models. One learning model that has been extensively researched and proven to be effective in teaching English writing skills is the Genre Based Approach. The English teacher's mastery of the Genre Based Approach learning model is very important because apart from being proven effective, it is also recommended by the government, especially in the implementation of the “Kurikulum Merdeka”. It is projected to be applied in the coming year. GBA will be required for teaching English in schools, including in vocational schools. In this research, the implementation is done using the model of lesson study. The lesson study is carried out in three cycles until finally, the students got a score that exceeds the average score. In addition to quantitative data to increase students' English writing scores, the researchers also analyzed the observation field notes written by related to students’ learning involvement when GBA was being implemented. From the analysis, it can be concluded that GBA can also increase the students’ willingness to involve in the learning process.

The objective of this research was to determine the students' reading proficiency when taught with and without the KWL strategy, to determine the significance of the difference between the students' reading proficiency when taught with and without the K-W-L strategy, and to determine the students' perception following the use of the K-W-L strategy. This study relied on quantitative research, and its quasi-experimental research design. The entire eighth grade school population at SMP N 1 Jepara for the academic year 2022/2023 served as the population for this study. The VIII A experimental group, which had 32 students, and the VIII B control group, which also had 32 students, made up the sample for this study. To collect data, the instrument used were multiple choice and questionnaire. Both of classes got the same test, pre-test and post-test. The result of pre-test mean is 47.41 for experimental class and 49.47 for the control class with The post-test mean of experimental class is 78.50 and The post-test mean of control class is 67. The students’ perspective about KWL strategy is most of them agree that KWL strategy is effective to improve their reading skill, helps them to add more the vocabulary of English, stimulates them to be more active. The researcher recommends the use of KWL strategy to be implemented to improve the students’ reading skill, but it would be better the teacher combines the KWL strategy with another teaching method, so that the students’ reading achievement will be more maximum.

The study of illocutionary acts is a subfield within speech acts that can be explored through various media, including movies like "Fast and Furious 9." Released on May 20, 2021 and produced by Universal Pictures, the movie offers an interesting storyline and numerous dialogues by the character Dominic Toretto that contain illocutionary acts. The aim of this research was to identify the types and most dominant illocutionary acts used by Dominic Toretto in the movie, as well as to examine how these acts contribute to pragmatic teaching. The research utilized the documentation research method and descriptive analysis technique in a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on Dominic Toretto’s utterances in "Fast and Furious 9." Based on Searle's theory (1979), five types of illocutionary acts were found, including assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative, with the dominant type being directive. The results of this study can be useful for teachers and lecturers to incorporate the analysis of illocutionary acts in pragmatic teaching, using "Fast and Furious 9" as an effective teaching medium.

The use of media in English teaching and learning has received much attention from educators and second/foreign language educators. The use of media includes movies, music, films, and other types of entertainment-related learning resources. Movies or short movies is one of teaching media that make students can learn through audio and visual. This quantitative research study the implementation of English short movies to teach vocabulary for students. The study focused on the implementation of English short movies in teaching and learning process to increase students’ vocabulary mastery. The study’s results indicated that students’ vocabulary mastery before taught using English short movies was in fair category. Findings also revealed that students vocabulary mastery after taught using English short movies was in good category. From the study’s results before, it means that there is improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery before and after taught using English short movies.

This study was conducted in the context of joint-thesis open learning application use for masters’ degree/graduate-supervisors communication. The objectives are to identify reasons for no intention of the application and e-poster template use; and to identify the significant influences of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM 3) variables on this case. The research questions---what are the reasons for the supervisors and supervisees dismissal of the application as well as its e-poster template, and secondly, how do TAM 3 variables affect their productivity in writing master thesis. The data were taken from questionnaires based on TAM 3 evaluation model, administered to 12 thesis supervisors from the Philippines and Malaysia, and 30 Indonesian supervisees. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square Standard Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The results indicated that supervisors faced performance (PE) and effort expectations (EE) problems. The supervisees’ facilitating condition (FC) is the main reason for the lack of intention to use.

Dissatisfaction of internet connection to render e-poster multimedia links, namely one of the reasons. For practical implication, stable internet connection is needed, and corrective feedback tools should be infused into the application.This research contribute constructive feedback for other graduate programs to have similar application and use e-poster presentation in their international joint thesis collaborations.

The data analysis method used qualitative analysis, namely the data obtained were analyzed and presented in the form of spoken and written words based on the facts that existed during the research. The subjects used were English teachers and 32 students from class VIIIB. The instruments used for data collection are observation and interviews. The results of this study are as follows: in the learning process, the teacher uses discovery learning teaching strategies. There are five stages in the use of the strategy, namely, Stimulation, Problem Statement, Data Collection, Data Processing, Verification, and Generalization. The teacher explains step by step so that students can understand, With the use of suitable teaching strategies, it will make the learning process easier, especially for teachers. especially writing descriptive text.
