This research aimed to evaluate how effective English Film Subtitles are in improving the reading comprehension abilities of second-grade students attending SMP Negeri 6 Semarang. The objective was to determine the changes in students' reading comprehension abilities before and after the implementation of English Film Subtitles and to ascertain if there were significant differences in their comprehension levels. This research adopted a quantitative approach employing a pre-experimental design with a sample size of 34 students. The study consisted of several stages, including pret-test, treatment, and post-test. Data collection comparosed gathering outcomes from both pret-test and post-test assesements. Subsequently, data analysis was carried out utilizing SPSS version 25. The findings unveiled that students who were taught without English film subtitles had lower learning outcomes compared to those instructed with subtitles, as evidenced by an average pretest score of 57,50 and a posttest score of 86,47. Additionally, the analysis of data normality using the Wilcoxon test indicated that the hypothesis was accepted (Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) 0,000 < 0,005), suggesting a significant difference between pretest and posttest results. This significance was further supported by students' perceptions, with 70% more reporting improvement in their English skills when learning with English film subtitles. The diversity of music genres contributes to the appeal and freshness of musical styles. The American music industry is known for constantly innovating and introducing new genres that gain widespread popularity. Among these genres is Grunge, which gained prominence in 1992 (Zrinka, 2014). Grunge's popularity can be attributed to its unique characteristics and the distinctive approach of musicians in delivering their music to the audience. Grunge musicians often exhibit a distinct style during performances, attracting a dedicated fan base. This research seeks to 1) Describe the impact of Nirvana, a Grunge band, and their music on social influences.

2) Elaborate on the impact of Nirvana, a Grunge band, and their music on social influences. 3) Examine the impact of Nirvana, a Grunge band, and their music on social influences..

The study employs a qualitative research methodology utilizing a case study approach. According to the findings, Nirvana Band was established in 1987 in Washington, United States by the vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, the band's bassist. Nirvana achieved significant milestones, including an oversold ticket tour in Europe in late 1991. The song "Smell Like Teen Spirit" became widely popular on radio and music television. By Christmas 1991, Nevermind was selling 400,000 copies per week in the United States. On January 11, 1992, the album topped the Billboard album chart, surpassing Michael Jackson's Dangerous. Nirvana was considered groundbreaking for addressing social issues like homophobia, racism, and sexism during the 90s, a time when discussing such topics was not common.

Hence, based on the findings of this research, it is evident that Nirvana is a prominent grunge music group, particularly favored by adolescents and boasting a substantial global fan base. The release of Nevermind attracted a fresh wave of listeners who were unfamiliar with alternative, underground, or avant-garde bands. According to Finocchioro in Ramelan (1984), language is an arbitrary system of vocal symbols, which allows all people in a particular culture, or others who have studied the system of that culture, to interact or to communicate with others. The study of meaning is usually referred to in a technical term called semantic, semantics also includes linguistics because meaning is part of language. Based on Tarigan (1985:7) semantics is the study of meaning. The meaning is expressed by symbols or signs that are analyzed. In humans and society, meaning in semantics has an influential relationship with each other. According to Keraf (2009), figurative language is a way to express thoughts through language. It can be interpreted that figurative language is very influential on the meaning to be conveyed, shown by the spirit and personality of the author who has a certain influence in the sentence to be conveyed. Figurative language can also be used to express of feeling like theme, ideas, and feeling of the author. If you can't understand figurative language the meaning expressed by the speakers, the communication will not be conveyed properly which means that “figurative language requires a special process that just happens after a literal fail” (Jay, 2003, p. 314). Perrine (1982:61) states that a way of saying something other than the usual way is a broad definition of figurative language. To express the meaning, figurative language uses a different way from literal interpretation. According to Khotari (2004:3), qualitative research is concerned with qualitative phenomenon, i.e., phenomena relating to or involving quality or kind. In behavioral science, qualitative research is very important because it aims to find the underlying motives for human behavior. In this study, the writer used qualitative method. The writer used the theory by Miles & Huberman (1994) to analyze the data. The writer founds 13 figurative languages in male support hero characters of Mobile Legends Bang-bang Game with details as follows: Simile 2 utterances, Metaphore 4 utterances, Hyperbole 2 utterances, Personification 4 utterances, Litotes 1 utterances.
