Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the development of handball, the obstacles in handball, the response of the government, society, and the supporting factors for handball in the city of Semarang.
This research method is qualitative research, namely data collected in the form of words, pictures, and not numbers. The instruments in this study are observation, interviews, documentation. The study was conducted orally (interview) with 5 respondents. The research location is in Ngaliyan, Semarang city. The research data that had been collected were fully analyzed qualitatively.
The results of the research that have been done show that the development of handball has not been widely known in the community. Every sport will definitely need special attention from the government in the hope that the sport itself will develop and be more advanced. Lack of socialization and the lack of matches organized by the government make handball less attractive to the public. The obstacle that occurs is from the funding sector, the price of handball sports equipment is quite expensive for the middle to lower class.
Based on the results of research and discussion, researchers can draw the following conclusions. The development of handball in the city of Semarang is less extensive, due to the lack of socialization and infrastructure, making handball sport less attractive.
