Abstract

Teacher professionalism is a condition, direction, value, purpose and quality of expertise and authority in the field of education and teaching. Professional teachers are one of the important indicators of quality schools. Given the strategic role of a teacher, efforts to identify and develop teacher professionalism are very important to do.

The purpose of the study was to determine (1) the effect of academic supervision on teacher professionalism (2) the effect of work climate on teacher professionalism (3) the effect of academic supervision and work climate together on the professionalism of elementary school teachers in Tahunan District, Jepara Regency.

The research uses a quantitative approach. The population in this study was elementary school teachers in Tahunan District with a total of 221 people, while a total sample of 142 was taken by proportional random sampling. Methods of data collection using a questionnaire instrument. Analysis of the data used is descriptive analysis, test requirements and hypothesis testing.

The results of the study (1) academic supervision have a positive and significant effect on teacher professionalism by 47.1%, the rest is influenced by other variables, (2) work climate has a positive effect on teacher professionalism by 28.3%, the rest is influenced by other variables, (3) there are Principal's academic supervision and work climate have a positive and significant effect on the professionalism of elementary school teachers in Tahunan District, Jepara Regency by 51.2%.

The Department of Education and Culture is advised to regularly train principals to improve academic supervision abilities, develop detailed teacher work programs and facilitate activities that support teacher professionalism.
