Abstract

Project-based learning (Project Based Learning) is student-centered innovative learning and determines the teacher as a motivator and facilitator, where students are given the opportunity to work autonomously to construct their learning. The research was conducted at SMPN 3 Jambi City in science learning. The purpose of this study was to find out the application of the Project Based Learning model and to improve students' creative thinking skills in class IX A Biotechnology material at SMPN 3 Jambi City. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research method by taking it through observation and observation as well as tests of students' creative thinking abilities written in a format. This research was conducted in two cycles and in cycle I the students' creative thinking ability increased quite according to the lesson plan, the result was 17 students completed with a percentage of 56.67%, 13 students did not complete with a percentage of 435. Based on the results in cycle 1 students were sufficient enthusiastic in participating in learning on Biotechnology material. In Cycle I the researchers succeeded in improving learning with the result being that 26 students completed the lesson with a percentage of 86.67%, 4 students did not complete with a percentage of 13.33%. Based on monitoring the actions of the teacher's activities and monitoring the actions of student activities by applying the Project Based Learning model, it obtained a percentage in cycle 1 of 81.66% of the results of teacher actions and 51.1 5% of the results of student actions. In cycle II 93.3% of the results of the teacher's actions and 66.66% of the results of the students' actions. Thus the application of the Project Based Learning model can improve the creative thinking skills of class IX A students of SMPN 3 Jambi City in biotechnology material.
